American Vernacular is inspired by representations of African Americans in advertising and as decoration on household goods, especially from the late 19th century.  Julia Brown received an MFA from CalArts in 2006 and is currently a Visual Arts Fellow at the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, RI.  More information about her work can be found here.
