The Niche is a project of the Fine Arts Library at the University of Virginia in conjunction with the new media program in the Studio Art Department.  At least for now - we're hoping as other folks see what we're up to they'll have some ideas of their own (architects? musicians? engineers?).  Spring 2009 will be our first semester of programming and we're going to kick off by focusing on video art.

The Niche consists of a Mac Pro and a sixty-inch HD capable flat screen monitor mounted on a wall in a highly trafficked area of the library. There will be a couple comfy chairs to encourage viewers to take their time and several pairs of wireless headphones are available(since it's a library, we can't really keep the sound up). Videos will loop continuously while the library is open, seven days a week.

Check back soon for a schedule and more information about the work we'll be screening.
